You couldn’t accuse Portugal’s Disaffected with being anything like prolific. It has taken the thrash band seventeen years make this second album. Rebirth is an appropriate title for their blend of thrash rhythms and keyboard frenzies. It’s quite hard to categorize what they are doing, not because they are unique but because it’s a bit formless. By turns avant garde, jazzy and ferociously intense, this is the aural equivalent of throwing everything at the wall, hoping some of it sticks. Unfortunately, only a tiny amount does. If you like this kind of thing, you’ll like it. I don’t, so didn’t.
