CB Spotlight : Blackdown

Showing the young ‘uns how it’s done, South coast natives Blackdown are a band that you will be hearing a lot more about in the near future. Melodic, raw edged proper heavy metal like theirs is rare in an era where everyone is obsessed by “trend” and looking to jump on the next available bandwagon.

Given the pedigree of the musicians here, and their combined experience (Guitarist Dan Ranger was apparently in some band called Hydra Vein, but that was *cough* before my time) you know this is going to be something well worth checking out. Blackdown certainly know exactly what they’re about as they effortlessly mix awesome, ballsy vocals from Kate, a neckbreaking rhythm section and an industrial strength killer-riff-trading lead guitar attack from axemen Dan and Alex to impressive effect.

Oh, and top that all off with well written, catchy songs with hooks that take up residence in your head and refuse to bugger off…..

Yep, that’ll be all of the traditional ingredients of great heavy metal present and correct then. And if you don’t believe us, just check out the new promo video for Warface…

Band Name : Blackdown

Home Town : Hastings/ East Sussex

Year Formed : 2011

Current Lineup :
Vocals – Kate Maunsell
Guitars – Dan Ranger
Guitars – Alex “Flash” Bolt
Bass/Vocals – Roger Bugg

Brief History :
Formed in 2011 after much aleing and whining, Blackdown are balls out, high octane, melodic metallers. They’re unashamedly about the hooks, the hell raising and the heavy metal!

Comprising of Kate Maunsell – kicking the shit out of the girly stereotypes – on vocals and uniting the slick shreds of Dan Ranger and the low strung squeals of Flash Bolt on guitars, Blackdown are kept tight and tasty by Jon Ewen on skins and Roger Bugg on the bass.

With dueling guitars, catchy choruses and neck numbing grooves, Blackdown are an amalgamation of the last 30 years of rock and metal, making no apology for their willingness to cross generic boundaries.

Future Plans :
Write more kick ass songs, more gigs further a field and the odd festival would be nice.

Tell us something interesting / amusing / stupid about the band :
Dan is old and was once a member of 80’s thrashers Hydra Vein.

Who would be your ideal tour-mates ?
Shinedown, Hell Yeah or any band that writes killer kick ass melodic metal songs.

And what would be on the rider ?
Beer for the band and a wheelchair for Dan.
