Say what you like about Parkway Drive, there’s no denying that they know how to put on a proper old fashioned rock show. From the back projection of the sun coming up over the Earth everything was nigh-on perfect. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this good a light show in the Academy, and on the latest date of their extensive jaunt on the back of their Atlas album the band certainly showed their peers just how good a gig can look 🙂
I wouldn’t count myself as the biggest fan (not in their target demographic I’d imagine 😉 but there is no denying that Parkway Drive were a band inspired, working the stage tirelessly and giving their fanatical fans exactly what they wanted. Now I knew this was going to be intense, but I didn’t really anticipate just HOW intense. From the first notes of Sparks circle pits opened up all over the place, and whatever the pit crew were getting paid they certainly earned as ridiculous numbers of crowd surfers came at them over the barrier.
The use of the projections on the backdrop were at a whole other level to the point where, on more than one occasion, I found myself watching what was going on there, rather than what the band were up to.
I’m not sure exactly what I expected from Parkway Drive, but I certainly didn’t expect them to be quite this good, and the pit that opened up for Boneyards has to be one of the biggest ever to grace Academy 1.
