Damnation Festival 2013 is creeping up on us. With the new fourth stage added this year CB thought we’d introduce you Olde English doom peddlers, Black Magician. Here’s your quick-fire introduction to the band:
Band Name : Black Magician
Home Town : Liverpool
Year Formed : 2011
Current Lineup :
Liam Yates – Vocals
Kyle Nesbitt – Guitars, hammond organ
Jay Plested – Drums
Jonathan Fletcher – Hammond Organ, Mellotron
Robert Berry – Bass
Brief History : Black Magician started from a meeting of like-minded souls who shared a passion for old heavy metal, prog, folk, psych, antiquarian studies and literature. A few months of jamming ensued, and a show supporting Wino’s Premontion 13 caught the attention of Shaman recordings and Burning World Records. A vinyl and CD release of the album Nature is the Devils Church followed. Various tours and shows supporting the likes of Grand Magus, Carcass and Pentagram, and festival appearances at Dublin Doom Days, Desertfest and Roadburn led the band to signing with Finland’s Svart Records for the release of the Pursuivant EP. The band are currently working on a second album.
Career Highlight : Playing Roadburn and receiving praise from members of Reverend Bizarre and Dream Death after the show.
Future Plans : Tour Europe in March and record our next album. Move to more rural environs.
Describe your music in 1 word : Epochal.
Tell us something interesting / amusing / stupid about the band : We received a large amount of mail from African and Asian countries enquiring about black magic, usually asking advice on how to hex an ex girlfriend or employer.
Who would be your ideal tour-mates ? A tour with Venom circa 1982 would be nice.
And what would be on the rider ? A good selection of real ales and meat.
