There’s nothing quite like a late evening shot of adrenaline after a long couple of days at a music festival. You know the sort of thing, you’re flagging fast and counting the hours until bedtime then BANG!!! A band comes on and smacks you straight back into life again.
Yes, yet another great young Scandinavian band…
Screamer hail from Ljungby in Sweden, and they are presently taking their riff fuelled “full throttle heavy metal” round the venues of Europe as part of a tasty metal bill with labelmates Striker.
Screamer are a proper, pure old school metal band. Fronted by bassist Christoffer Svensson (who is great to photograph, he has THE most awesome array of “metal front man” facial expressions) the band clearly don’t go in for much in the way of frills and unnecessary extras. Clad in Jeans, t-shirts and leather jackets (black, obviously), and armed with songs from the fertile Heavy Metal inspiration fields they throw down a proper “bang your f’kin head” gauntlet to the remaining crowd, who don’t hesitate in picking it up.
If you’re going to do something that’s been done before, you have to make sure that you do it bloody well not to be lost in the morass of average mental bands out there. Well Screamer do what they do fucking brilliantly. I awaited their set not expecting very much, but I left knowing I’d seen something a bit special.
