It has been a long old three days by the time The Answer wrap things up on the main stage for Hard Rock Hell VII. After an almighty set by everyone’s favourite Aussies Airbourne had finally finished a good many punters off the numbers may have thinned out a little but there was still a substantial crowd awaiting the arrival of Cormack and Co.
The Answer are on a roll at the moment, and kick things off with the title track from their latest album New Horizon. Now I must admit that hitherto The Answer have been a bit hit and miss with me, but the last couple of times I’ve seen them they have been outstanding live.
So would they keep that upwards trend going at HRH ?.
Well, I’ll just say that the people who had left early were missing a treat.
The Answer are the godfathers of the current “classic rock” renaissance, and as they rip through an impressive, energetic set it’s easy to see why. Cormac is the consummate frontman, the focus of attention visually as well as possessing a voice that was just made for exactly this sort of music.
Rather than a festival slot, this felt very much like am intimate headline show, such is the connection that exists between the band and the audience. It’s a connection made all the stronger when Cormac comes down off the stage and into the crowd for some good old fashioned audience participation during set closer Preachin’.
While there were still attractions to be had on the second stage that was is for Stage 1 this year, and what a way to finish things off. The Answer have been on the verge of great things for a while now but, for me, they just never seemed to take that next step.
Well on the strength of tonight’s performance I predict that those great things just got a whole lot closer…
